Sarajevo – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is pleased to announce today the appointment of renowned basketball player, two-times EuropLeague champion, Džanan Musa as its first Goodwill Ambassador for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Born in Bihać, Džanan achieved recognition in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and was honored with the EuroCup Basketball Rising Star Award in 2018. Currently playing for Real Madrid in the Spanish Liga ACB, Musa secured the EuroLeague title in 2023. His illustrious career serves as inspiration for aspiring athletes and youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

I am thrilled about the prospect of collaborating on numerous impactful initiatives aimed at assisting those in need. I am also particularly excited to engage in projects for the community”, said Džanan.

Beyond sports, his philanthropic efforts underscore a deep commitment to his community, particularly towards youth, reflecting a profound dedication to humanitarian work.

Through his new platform as IOM Goodwill Ambassador, Džanan intends to raise awareness and foster a deeper understanding of migration and promote the human stories behind the headlines. He also seeks to further engage with youth in local communities, and advocate for the transformative power of sports.

"We are excited Dzanan will join IOM BiH as Goodwill Ambassador, he is a role model for young people and shows how much sports can be a universal message of cohesion, inclusion and multiculturalism”, said Ms. Laura Lungarotti, Western Balkans Coordinator and Chief of Mission of IOM Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. IOM joined the United Nations system as a related organization in 2016.
